Friends of Loretto Abbey
The history of Loretto Abbey lies deep in the history of Toronto. The Abbey, was established by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, better known as the Loretto Sisters. The Institute, which has a long tradition in education, was founded for that purpose early in the 17th century by an English woman, Mary Ward. Mary Ward held a strong conviction “that women in time to come will do much,” which continues to inspire and challenge women today.
The values of the Loretto Sisters guide our daughters today. All fundraising our daughters do goes toward a charity chosen in conjunction with and supported by the Loretto Sisters.
The Friends of Loretto Abbey (FOLA) is a group of parents, alumnae and others. We work alongside our Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) but are a separate registered charity that is dedicated to its mission of providing our daughters with the best education possible through purchases of equipment and other needs that the school otherwise could not afford.
If you wish to make a donation to FOLA, you will receive a tax receipt.
There are three ways that you can donate:
1) Directly to the school. You can mail in a cheque directly to the main office of the school. All cheques should be made out to Friends of Loretto Abbey.
2) CanadaHelps.org. Make your donation directly through CanadaHelps.org “Friends of Loretto Abbey”. https://www.canadahelps.org
3) United Way. If you participate in a workplace United Way program, you can direct all or a portion of your United Way contributions to Friends of Loretto Abbey. Directing your donation will be an option on your form. You can also ask your company to match your Friends of Loretto donation if they have a matching grant program in place.
